Tazewell, VA

Tazewell is a town in Giles County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisonburg- Staunton, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The town of Tazewell was founded in 1785 by James and Elizabeth (Powell) Tazewell on land that they had purchased from the Cherokee Nation. The first settler in what would become Tazewell was John Powell, who arrived in 1784. The town's name is derived from the Cherokee word "taza" meaning "a small stream".
