Iron River, WI

Iron River is a small town located in the northeast corner of Wisconsin. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Forest County.

The town was first settled in 1853 by settlers from Michigan. The name Iron River was given to the community because of the many iron ore mines in the area. The town grew rapidly and by 1876 had a population of 1,500. In 1892, a railroad line was built through Iron River and this led to an increase in population and business activity.

Today, Iron River is a thriving small town with many businesses and attractions that draw visitors from around Wisconsin and beyond. Some of the businesses in Iron River include a grocery store, gas station, bank, post office, restaurant, barbershop, beauty salon and several other stores. There are also several churches in town as well as a public library.

The main attraction in Iron River is Lake Superior which can be seen from many vantage points throughout the town. There are also several hiking trails that lead into the woods nearby or down to Lake Superior itself. Other attractions include museums such as the Museum of Mining & Industry which has exhibits on mining history as well as local artisans who create items using traditional methods; an amusement park called Adventureland; and numerous lakes for fishing or swimming including Lake Superior itself which is known for its large whitefish populations as well as smaller fish like perch and walleye that can be caught on hook and line or with bait
