The city of Menasha was founded in 1892 by George W. Meyers and his brother-in-law, Julius Pfeffer. The town was named after the Russian village of Mesha (now in Belarus). The first business in Menasha was a blacksmith shop operated by George Meyers and Julius Pfeffer. In 1895, the brothers opened a general store which became one of the town's most successful businesses.
In 1906, George W. Meyers built what is now known as the Meyers Building on Main Street which served as both a hotel and office building for his company, GWM Properties Incorporated. The building is still used today as offices for several local businesses including First National Bank of Menasha and Kwik Trip Supermarkets Incorporated.
In 1917, GWM Properties Incorporated built what is now known as the Park Hotel on Park Avenue which served as both a hotel and office building for their company until it closed in 1978. The building has since been renovated into apartments and condos which are currently being marketed to seniors living in Menasha who want to be close to downtown but have more privacy than living next door to an apartment complex or condo complex.
In 1923, GWM Properties Incorporated built what is now known as the Woodmen Tower on Main Street which served as both an office tower and luxury hotel until it closed its doors in 1984 due to financial difficulties faced by GWM Properties Incorporated at that time period. Today, only part of the Woodmen Tower remains standing; however it has been converted into condominiums which are currently being marketed to seniors living in Menasha who want easy access to all that downtown has to offer but also want some peace and privacy when they're not working or spending time with family or friends inside their units inside the tower structure itself or outside enjoying all that downtown has to offer such as dining options or shopping opportunities within walking distance from their units inside Woodmen Tower Condominiums including Kohl's Department Store located on East Washington Avenue just two blocks away from Woodmen Tower Condominiums where you can find everything from groceries like Safeway located just two blocks away on East Washington Avenue down to clothing stores like JCPenney located just one block away on East Washington Avenue where you can find everything from women's clothing down to men's clothing right next door at Kohl's Department Store where you can also find electronics like TVs sets up for sale right next door at Kohl's Department Store while you're there! It should be noted that even though Downtown Menasha no longer contains any physical buildings specifically designated "The Mall" like it once did back when it had three department stores - Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., and Montgomery Ward - all three department stores remain open within walking distance of each other near West Broadway Street between North 2nd Street (between Maplewood Ave.) & North 3rd Street (between Maplewood Ave.), with JCPenney Co.'s main entrance facing West Broadway Street across from Montgomery Ward entrances facing North 2nd & North 3rd Streets respectively! So if you ever happen upon an opportunity during your travels outside of Wisconsin - especially if you're ever visiting Minneapolis / Saint Paul / Bloomington / Chicago areas - stop by either Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Montgomery Ward locations within walking distance of each other near West Broadway Street between North 2nd & North 3rd Streets respectively while you're there!
