Princeton is a small town located in Dane County, Wisconsin. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Princeton is home to the University of Wisconsin- Madison and the Princeton- Plainsboro Regional School District.
The history of real estate in Princeton can be traced back to 1837 when land was first surveyed and sold in the town. The first plat was filed on October 9th of that year and designated a section for a sawmill and gristmill. In 1845, land was sold for $1 per acre and by 1850 there were twenty-four lots listed for sale. In 1853, the first building in Princeton – a hotel – was erected on what is now known as Main Street. By 1870, there were seventy-six buildings in town with a population of 1,200 people.
In 1889, the railroad came to Princeton and development began to rapidly grow around it. By 1900 there were over one hundred buildings in town with a population of 2,500 people. The growth continued through World War II with many new businesses opening up due to military personnel returning home after serving their country overseas. In 1950 there were over four hundred buildings in town with a population of 6,000 people.
Today, real estate remains an important part of the economy in Princeton thanks to its proximity to major universities such as UW- Madison and PLRSD schools as well as other businesses and attractions such as Lake Monona which attracts tourists from all over the world each year. There are currently over one thousand buildings housing over twelve thousand residents within the city limits making it one of Wisconsin’s most densely populated towns
