Sheboygan, WI

Sheboygan is a city located in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 25,827 at the 2010 census. Sheboygan is the county seat of Sheboygan County.

The city was founded in 1845 and was originally named "Unionville". It was renamed " Sheboygan" after Chief Shebwagan of the Ojibwe Nation who had given his consent to the settlement. The first post office opened on July 1, 1845.

The economy of Sheboygan has traditionally been based on manufacturing (particularly paper products), agriculture (particularly dairy products), and tourism. However, since the late 1990s there has been a significant shift in the economy towards services and technology-related businesses. This shift is due in part to increased immigration from Latin America and Asia, as well as an increase in technological development within Wisconsin itself. In 2006, Forbes magazine ranked Sheboygan as one of America's 100 best small cities to live in.

Real estate prices are generally higher than average for Wisconsin towns of similar size; however, there are a number of affordable housing options available in the city center and surrounding neighborhoods. The median home price in Sheboygan was $128,000 as of September 2013 according to Zillow data; this compares favorably with median home prices statewide which were $157,500 that same month. Additionally, recent job growth has led to increased demand for housing within the city limits; as a result, prices have continued to rise over recent years despite modest inflation rates overall (2% annually).
