The history of Sturgeon Bay dates back to 1836 when a group of settlers from New York City arrived in what is now known as Sturgeon Bay. The town quickly grew and by 1851 had a population of 1,000 people. In 1892, the first railroad line arrived in town which helped spur growth even further. By 1900, the population had reached 5,000 people and by 1920 it had reached 10,000 people.

Today, Sturgeon Bay is still home to many businesses and attractions that make it a popular tourist destination. The town has an abundance of lakes and rivers that provide opportunities for fishing and boating as well as swimming and kayaking.
