Whitehall, WI

Whitehall is a small town located in the northwest corner of Wisconsin. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Whitehall is located on U.S. Highway 8 and County Road B in Price County.

The town of Whitehall was founded in 1892 by George W. and Caroline (Henderson) Whitehall and named for their home county of Hampshire, England. The first post office opened in 1893 with Charles Ladd as the postmaster. In 1906, a fire destroyed most of the business district, but it was rebuilt within two years at a cost of $10,000 ($236,000 in today's dollars). A new school was also built that same year at a cost of $5,000 ($115,000 in today's dollars).

In 1912, the railroad came to town and provided much needed jobs for the community's residents. The railroad still operates through town today providing freight service to surrounding farms and businesses.

Today, Whitehall is a small town with many historic buildings dating back to its early days as a settlement. The downtown area features several stores including an antique store and two general stores which are now closed but still standing as testament to the community's past businesses and commerce. There are also several restaurants located downtown including an ice cream shop which has been open since 1923! One notable building not found within the downtown area is the old schoolhouse which now serves as home to Price County Historical Society Museum . This museum features exhibits on local history from prehistoric times up until present day including photos from local newspapers dating back to 1892! There is also an art gallery featuring work by local artists who have studios or galleries located throughout Price County .

The main attraction for visitors to Whitehall are undoubtedly its many beautiful lakes which dot both sides of U.S Highway 8 between town and neighboring rural areas such as Ransomville . These lakes include Lake Geneva , Lake Kegonsa , Lake Monona , Lake Mendota , Lake Winnebago , Lac du Flambeau , Big Fish Bayou , Little Fish Bayou (also known locally as "the swamp")and numerous smaller bodies of water known collectively as "the lakes". Many residents enjoy fishing for trout or bass from one of these lakes or canoeing or kayaking around them all during summer months when they are filled with cool refreshing water! Other recreational activities enjoyed by residents include hiking trails that run throughout Price County ; playing golf ; visiting historical sites such as Fort Howard State Park ; bird watching ; horseback riding ; cross country skiing ; snowmobiling; sledding; picnicking; attending concerts or festivals held throughout Price County each summer; shopping at local merchants; attending church services; participating in community organizations such as Kiwanis Club or Lions Club ; etc...
