Both home equity and home prices can vary greatly from one area to another, depending on many factors, including the level of demand and supply, interest rates, and local government regulations.

According to The Wall Street Journal, in March 2018, the median home value in the United States was $217,500. In West Virginia, the median home value was $119,000. This means that while there is a significant disparity between median home values in West Virginia and across the nation as a whole, Kermit's median home value is still relatively low when compared to other areas of West Virginia.

This low median home value may be due in part to Kermit's population size (just over 1,000 residents), as well as its location within Kanawha County – one of West Virginia's more rural counties. Additionally, Kermit has been hit particularly hard by recent economic conditions; according to Zillow data released in March 2018 , Kermit's unemployment rate was 10% higher than the statewide average at that time .

Despite these challenges – and others faced by all communities – it is important to remember that there are also many positive aspects to living in Kermit. For example:

• The community is close-knit and supportive;

• There is plenty of outdoor recreation available nearby (including hunting and fishing);

• The schools are excellent ( Kermit Elementary School received a "5" rating from Great Schools USA , while both Middleton High School and Marshall University have "A" ratings from Great Schools USA );

• Healthcare options are plentiful (the town has two hospitals).
