Boise, Idaho is a city located in the Treasure Valley region of the state. The city has a population of just over 200,000 and is home to several universities, including Boise State University and the University of Idaho. The economy of Boise is based largely on services, with a significant portion of the population employed in health care, technology, and insurance. Home prices in Boise have been increasing rapidly over the past few years. In March 2017, the median home price was $269,500 according to Zillow. This represents an increase of nearly 30% from March 2016 levels. Over the same period, Zillow's index for all U.S. homes increased by just under 6%.

One reason for this rapid growth may be that there are relatively few homes available for sale in Boise at present. According to MLSListings data from February 2018 there were only 153 active listings in Boise compared to more than 2200 during peak housing market conditions back in 2007-2008 (before the recession). This shortage has led to bidding wars and high prices for properties that do come up for sale.
