The railroads played an important role in developing Banks during the late nineteenth century. This line helped spur development in banks because it made transportation more accessible for residents and businesses alike.

In 1906, another railroad line was built through Bank connecting Birmingham with Mobile via Selma (now known as Montgomery). This line also helped spur development because it made transportation more accessible for residents and businesses alike.

During World War II, many soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Rucker moved into Bank to take advantage of its affordable housing stock and its proximity to major military installations such as Fort Rucker and Maxwell Air Force Base (now known as Montgomery Regional Airport).
