Carmel Valley is a beautiful and affluent community located in the Central Coast region of California. The area has a long history of agriculture and wine production, and today it is known for its luxury homes, wineries, and golf courses. Real estate in Carmel Valley is highly sought after, with prices reaching into the millions of dollars.

The Carmel Valley area was first settled in the early 1800s by Spanish settlers. In 1868, John Dutton purchased Rancho San Lucas from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $11,000. Dutton developed the land into a cattle ranch and vineyard, eventually selling portions of the property to other investors. The Carmel Valley appellation was created in 1892 by Jules Verneuil as part of his novel Around the World in Eighty Days.

In 1906, Frank Waugh purchased Rancho San Lucas from Dutton for $135,000. Waugh developed much of the land into what is now known as Carmel-by-the-Sea. He also built several homes on the property that are now some of Carmel Valley's most iconic landmarks: The Waugh House (now known as Casa de la Guerra), The Spanish Villa (now known as Casa del Mar), and The Pointe at Monterey (now known as Pointe at Monterey).

During World War II, much of Carmel Valley was used as a military base due to its proximity to San Francisco Bay Area ports. After the war ended, many servicemen returned home and began buying homes in Carmel Valley; this trend continued throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Today, many families who live in Carmel Valley commute to work in downtown San Francisco or Silicon Valley; however, there are still plenty of homes available for sale within the community itself.

The majority of real estate activity takes place within two designated areas within Carmel Valley: The Village at Tamalpais Hills (which includes neighborhoods such as Stone Ridge Estates and Woodside) and The Oaks at Pinecrest (which includes neighborhoods such as Pinehurst Manor Estates and Oak Knoll).
