Foothill Ranch, CA

Foothill Ranch is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. The population was estimated to be at 107,906 as of the 2010 census. Foothill Ranch is a suburban city adjacent to the City of Los Angeles and is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Foothill Ranch has been called "the Beverly Hills of the Southland" and "the most affluent community in Southern California."

The city was founded in 1926 by Walter W. Disney as an agricultural colony for workers on his newly acquired property near Burbank. The colony grew rapidly, and by 1930, there were enough residents to form a municipal corporation; this entity became known as Foothill Farms. In 1938, Walt Disney purchased additional land in what would become Foothill Ranch and began construction of his new home, Disneyland Park. The opening of Disneyland in 1955 led to an even greater influx of residents into the area; within ten years, Foothill Ranch had grown from a small town to a bustling metropolis.

Today, Foothill Ranch remains an affluent community with many well-known residents: actors Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan; athletes Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; business magnate Donald Trump; television personality Oprah Winfrey; singer Barbra Streisand; actor Robert Redford; author Danielle Steel (whose home is located in nearby Calabasas); directors Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg (both longtime residents); politicians Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein (both former mayors). In addition to its many famous citizens, Foothill Ranch is also home to numerous businesses that have become internationally renowned: Ralphs Grocery Stores (one of America's largest grocery chains), Jiffy Lube Automotive Repair (one of America's leading oil change franchises), Starbucks Coffee Company (one of America's leading coffee retailers), Toyota Motor Sales USA (America's largest Toyota dealership chain).

Real estate in Foothill Ranch is highly sought after due both to its proximity to downtown Los Angeles as well as its many amenities: excellent schools (including two private schools ranked among the top 50 schools nationwide), plenty of shopping options including major department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as high-end boutiques such as Bergdorf Goodman and Tiffany & Co., world-renowned hospitals such as Cedars Sinai Medical Center and St. John's Health Center - both designated "Gold Level" facilities by Medicare - numerous recreational opportunities including golf courses at several local clubs including Spyglass Hill Country Club - one of Southern California's most prestigious golf courses - horseback riding at Saddleback Riding Club or skiing at nearby Mammoth Mountain Resort or Big Bear Lake Resort are just some examples.
