Friant, CA

Friant is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population of Friant was just over 2,000 people as of the 2010 census. The town is located about 25 miles east of Fresno and 10 miles west of Hanford.

The history of Friant can be traced back to 1892 when the railroad was extended to that area. A few years later, a group of settlers arrived and began to develop the town. In 1906, Friant became an incorporated city.

Today, Friant is primarily a agricultural community with some light industrial development. The primary economic drivers are agriculture and tourism. Agriculture in Friant includes crops such as cotton, corn, wheat, and alfalfa; livestock includes cattle, pigs, horses, and chickens; and dairy products are produced locally. Tourism in Friant focuses on nearby attractions such as Yosemite National Park and Lake Isabella Recreation Area. There is also interest in the historical aspects of the town including its pioneer heritage and its connection to World War II through Camp Roberts (now Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton).
