Lynwood is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 143,724. Lynwood is a suburb of Los Angeles and is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The city was incorporated on February 8, 1938.

The city's economy is based on retail sales and professional services. Major employers include The Walt Disney Company (which operates its theme parks in nearby Anaheim), Sony Pictures Entertainment (formerly Columbia Pictures Television), and Prudential Financial (the largest life insurance company in the world).

Lynwood borders South Gate to the south; Commerce to the east; Hawthorne to the north; and Boyle Heights to the west. It also shares a border with unincorporated El Monte County to the east.

The 2010 United States Census reported that Lynwood had a population of 143,724 people living in 50,527 households. The population density was 10,898 people per square mile (4,201/km²). The racial makeup of Lynwood was 77,906 (53%) White (35% Non-Hispanic White), 11,868 African American or Black (6%), 2 Native American or Alaskan Native (0%), 784 Asian (4%), 546 Pacific Islander (2%), and 20 persons from other races (.2%). Hispanic or Latino of any race were 52,752 persons(39%).

The Census reported that 100% of households had at least one person over 18 years old who spoke English at home.
