Milpitas, CA

Milpitas is a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area, in Santa Clara County, California. The population was 106,098 at the 2010 census. Milpitas is known for its high-tech industry and its affluence. According to Forbes, it has been ranked as one of the most expensive cities in America.

The city of Milpitas was founded by George Dutton and James Waddell on April 4th, 1853. They named their settlement after the Mexican town of Milpita de Alvarado, although there is no evidence that this is where they got the name from. The first land sales took place on April 5th of that year and consisted of a total of 38 acres for $500. Milpitas became an incorporated city on February 5th, 1906.

Today, Milpitas is home to many high-tech companies such as Intel Corporation (formerly Intel Corporation of America), Google Inc., Facebook Inc., eBay Inc., Apple Inc., and Adobe Systems Incorporated (formerly Adobe Systems Incorporated). These companies have helped make Milpitas one of the wealthiest cities in America. Additionally, many other major corporations have offices in or around Milpitas including Nike, Levi Strauss & Co., Crate & Barrel Company, Wells Fargo Bank NA/WFC/Bank One NA/Wachovia Corporation (formerly Wachovia Bank), American Express Company (formerly American Express Company) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (formerly Compaq Computer Corporation).
