Santa Paula, CA

Santa Paula is a city located in Ventura County, California. The population was 103,924 at the 2010 census. Santa Paula is known for its wine production and has been called "the Napa Valley of Southern California."

The city's history can be traced back to 1873 when the land that is now Santa Paula was granted to John B. Sanborn and James S. Griffin by Governor Pio Pico. In 1875, the town of Santa Paula was founded by Dr. Jotham Meyers and several other businessmen. The first winery in Santa Paula opened in 1886 and by 1890 there were twenty-one wineries in operation within the city limits.

Today, wine production continues to be a major industry in Santa Paula with over sixty wineries operating within the city limits. Other businesses that have found success in Santa Paula include agriculture (particularly citrus), high-tech companies, and tourism. The city has also developed a strong arts community with numerous theaters, museums, and art galleries located within its boundaries.

Real estate in Santa Paula is dominated by single family homes with a majority of properties being owner-occupied. Properties are generally priced below average for Ventura County but above average for the rest of Southern California due to its proximity to Los Angeles and Orange counties as well as its reputation as a wine producing region.
