Sun Valley began as a rural farming community in 1923. In 1928, Dr. Walter W. Paepcke purchased of land in Sun Valley for $7500 from Ethel Paepcke (Walter's wife). Dr. Paepcke envisioned building a resort community that would attract celebrities and other affluent people to his new "health resort." He named his development Sun Valley after its location near Mount Soledad (now called Mount Wilson) in the Santa Monica Mountains.

In 1930, Dr. Paepcke built a hotel on part of his property which he named "The Lodge at Sun Valley." The lodge served as an early headquarters for what would become known as The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). In 1931, Dr. Paepcke opened a ski resort on another part of his property which he named "The Ski Club at Sun Valley."

In 1933, Dr. Paepcke hired architect Wallace Neff to design what would become known as "The Village," which was intended to be Sun Valley's main commercial district. The Village featured shops and restaurants along with lodging facilities for tourists who were visiting Sun Valley for skiing or relaxation purposes.

In 1935, construction began on what would become known as "The Inn at Sun Valley." The Inn was designed by noted architect Paul Cret and featured guest rooms with private baths and balconies overlooking downtown Sun valley below. In 1938, construction began on what would become known as "The Spa at Sun Valley" which featured a pool complex with an outdoor hot tub area overlooking downtown Sun valley below as well as treatment rooms for massage therapy and other spa services offered by Drs Walter W., Jr., & Edwin Janssens who owned & operated The Spa at that time

In 1939-1940, Walt Disney Productions filmed scenes from its movie Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs in various locations around Southern California including parts of Tarzana & Calabasas where Snow White's cottage was actually built . In 1941-1942 Warner Bros filmed scenes from its movie Casablanca in various locations around Southern California including parts of Tarzana & Calabasas where Rick Blaine's suite was actually built .

During World War II , many servicemen stationed in Los Angeles County used Sun Valley Resort facilities for recreation . After World War II , many servicemen returned home and started families . This led to increased demand for housing which caused prices for residential properties in The Village area of town to increase rapidly . By 1950 , prices had increased so much that many middle class families were unable to purchase homes within The Village area due to its high cost . As a result , these families started moving outwards towards neighborhoods such as Woodland Hills , Tarzana , Van Nuys & Calabasas which were considered more affordable at that time . This shift away from downtown led to decreased business activity within The Village area of town due to decreased foot traffic . Additionally , it also caused problems with crime since there were now less police officers patrolling downtown during evening hours when most crimes occurred

However despite these challenges , over time things started changing for the better within Downtown Sun valley thanks mainlyto two factors: 1) A gradual decrease in housing prices throughout Southern California due not onlyto inflation but alsoto stricter lending standards put into place followingthe Great Depression ; 2) An increasein tourism due primarilyto television shows such asthe Beverly Hillbillieswhich aired from 1962-1971andwhich prominently featured scenes shot inside& around DowntownSunValley
