The Sea Ranch, CA

The Sea Ranch is a small town located in Santa Barbara County, California. The population of the town was 2,814 as of the 2010 census. The Sea Ranch is known for its luxury real estate and its many golf courses.

The Sea Ranch was founded in 1924 by Dr. Robert H. Goddard and his wife, Mrs. Catherine Goddard, as a tuberculosis sanitarium and resort community. It was originally called "Sea Cliff". In 1926 they changed the name to "Sea Ranch" after buying an estate on the coast near Santa Barbara that they named "Sea Cliff".

In 1927 they opened their first hotel, the Sea Cliff Inn, which became a popular tourist destination for people from Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California who wanted to get away from the city heat and enjoy some of the beautiful coastal scenery.

In 1928 they built their first golf course, which was later renamed " The Sea Ranch Golf Club". In 1934 they built their second golf course, which was later renamed "The Links at The Sea Ranch".

During World War II The Sea Ranch served as a military hospital for soldiers wounded in action. After the war ended it resumed its role as a popular tourist destination.

In 1961 Dr. Goddard's son-in-law, Averell Harriman purchased The Sea Cliff Inn and began restoring it to its original condition. It reopened as a bed & breakfast inn in 1962 and has since been one of The Sea Ranch's most popular attractions.

In 1984 Donald Trump purchased an estate on The Sea Ranch called Trump Castle that he used as his home base while developing his Trump International Hotel & Tower in downtown Los Angeles. After Trump's election to President of the United States in 2016 he sold Trump Castle to David Geffen for $100 million dollars so that he could move back into his home in New York City .
