The Changing Face of Wilton

Wilton is a small town located in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains in Orange County, California. The population was 10,827 at the 2010 census. Wilton is known for its picturesque architecture and well-preserved historic downtown district.

The town was founded in 1887 by Dr. George Wilton and his wife, Flora. They named their new town after their home county of Wiltshire, England. The first buildings were constructed on Main Street and included a hotel, general store, post office, and blacksmith shop. By 1890 there were enough residents to form a school district and two churches had been built.

In 1906 an earthquake destroyed much of the downtown district but it was quickly rebuilt with more brick buildings using the same architectural style as before. In 1916 a fire destroyed most of the business district but again it was quickly rebuilt with more wood frame buildings that blended in better with the older brick structures.

During World War II Wilton served as a military base for training pilots for combat in Europe and North Africa. After the war ended many servicemen returned home and started families which led to an increase in population that continues today.

Today Wilton is still a small town with many historic buildings dating back to its early days as a railroad stop on the Santa Fe Railroad line connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco. The downtown area features well-maintained sidewalks lined with historical storefronts including several art galleries featuring local artists' work. There are also several restaurants serving everything from breakfast to dinner including several microbreweries located within walking distance of each other on Main Street..

Real estate has always been one of Wilton's main sources of income due to its close proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and Orange County as well as its scenic beauty which has made it popular among tourists from all over the world.. Over time real estate prices have increased significantly due to limited supply coupled with increasing demand from both locals and out-of-towners alike.. Today there are numerous real estate agents working throughout Wilton who are constantly trying to find new properties available for sale or lease..
