Oxford is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 14,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven– Milford metropolitan area.
The town was first settled in 1701 by a group of settlers from Oxford, England. The town was incorporated in 1716 and named for Oxford University in England. The town's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture and manufacturing, but it has also developed into a center for health care and education.
Oxford is home to many historic sites, including the Oxford Historical Society Museum and Library (founded 1824), the First Congregational Church (1727), and the John Fitch House (c. 1750). The town also features several parks, including Elmwood Park (established 1892), Riverside Park (established 1895), and Green Meadow Park (established 1924).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 2.47%, is water. The Connecticut River forms much of Oxford's eastern border; its banks are lined with trees and gardens that provide scenic views of downtown New Haven across the river.
