Watertown is a small town located in the northeast corner of Connecticut. The population was 10,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Watertown-Fort Drum area, which has a population of about 50,000.

The town was first settled in 1764 by Ebenezer and Sarah (Porter) Smith. The town was incorporated in 1785 and named for General Thomas Gage, who had been Commander-in-Chief of British forces in North America during the American Revolution. Watertown's economy has traditionally been based on manufacturing and agriculture; however, since the late 20th century it has developed into a bedroom community for Boston and other nearby cities.
