Bay Pines, FL

Bay Pines is a town located in Pinellas County, Florida. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Bay Pines is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg- Clearwater metropolitan area.

Bay Pines is located on the eastern shore of Clearwater Bay and is bordered by Dunedin to the north, Largo to the east, Palm Harbor to the south, and Gulfport to the west. The town has a mix of residential and commercial areas with a few parks and recreational facilities including Clearwater Marine Aquarium (formerly known as Dunedin Marine Park), Dunedin Springs State Park, and Bay Pines Golf Course.

The history of Bay Pines can be traced back to 1887 when Henry Flagler laid out his railroad line through what would become Bay Pines. The town began to grow rapidly in response to its proximity to Clearwater Beach which was becoming one of Florida's most popular tourist destinations. By 1920, there were already 1,000 residents living in Bay Pines. In 1941, during World War II, Naval Air Station Clearwater was established just north of Bay Pines on what is now Naval Air Station Largo-Henderson Field; it operated until 1994 when it was closed due to budget cuts.

Today, much of what makes Bay Pines unique remains unchanged including its close proximity to Clearwater Beach which continues to be one of Florida's top tourist destinations; its diverse mix of residential and commercial areas; and its reputation for being a safe community with low crime rates.

Real estate in Bay Pines has seen strong growth over recent years due in part to increased interest from both locals and outsiders looking for affordable housing options within easy reach of both Clearwater Beach and St Petersburg/ Tampa International Airport (PIE). In addition, many new homes have been built specifically for retirees who are attracted by the warm climate year-round as well as excellent golfing opportunities available at several nearby courses including Dunedin Springs State Park (one mile from town) and Gulfport Country Club (just outside town).
