Shorewood, IL

Shorewood is a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The population was 41,872 as of the 2010 census. Shorewood is bordered by Evanston to the north, Wilmette to the east, Northbrook to the south and west, and Lake Forest to the northwest.

The history of Shorewood can be traced back to 1892 when a group of farmers from DuPage County decided to form a town in order to have their own government and avoid paying taxes to Chicago. The town was originally called "New Brighton," but was later renamed Shorewood after an estate that had been donated by Samuel S. Shore. In 1906, Shorewood annexed part of Wilmette and in 1923 it annexed another part of Wilmette which gave it its current size.

Today, Shorewood is home to many affluent families who enjoy living in a suburban community with plenty of amenities yet still maintaining a small-town feel. Some popular attractions in Shorewood include The Promenade at Glencoe shopping mall (which has over 150 stores), Deerfield Beach State Park (home to miles of sandy beaches), and Millennium Park (home to such famous attractions as Buckingham Fountain and The Bean).

Real estate in Shorewood is very expensive due in part to its proximity both geographically and culturally to Chicago.
