The history of Westville can be traced back to 1837 when the first settler arrived and built a cabin on what is now known as Main Street. In 1848, the first post office opened in Westville and remained open until 1951. In 1892, the town was incorporated and by 1910 it had a population of 1,500. The growth of Westville continued through World War II with an influx of workers who were hired to build military bases in nearby towns such as Joliet and Chicago. After the war, many families moved into the town due to its affordable housing and excellent schools.
Today, Westville is a thriving community that continues to grow thanks to its strong economy and abundance of amenities such as shopping malls, restaurants, churches, and parks. The town has several well-known businesses including J&J Tire & Auto Service which has been operating since 1922 and Kmart which opened its doors in 1962.
