Canton is a small town located in the northeastern corner of Kansas. The population was just over 2,000 in the 2010 census, making it one of the smaller towns in the state. Canton is located just south of Wichita and northeast of Topeka. The town is bordered by the city of Newton to the west and northwest, by Lansing to the north, by Baldwin City to the east, and by Osage City to the south.

The history of Canton can be traced back to 1871 when a group of settlers from Indiana arrived in what was then known as Newton Township. The town grew slowly at first, but began to take off after World War II when several large manufacturing plants were established in Canton. Today, most of these plants have closed down or moved out of town, but there are still a few businesses remaining that provide jobs for residents.

The economy in Canton is based largely on agriculture and manufacturing.
