Mound City is a small town located in Wyandotte County, Kansas. The population was 2,876 at the 2010 census. Mound City is home to the Wyandotte County Courthouse and the Mound City Museum.

Mound City was founded in 1872 by settlers from Lawrence, Kansas. The town was named for a mound of earth that was found on the site of the town. The first business in Mound City was a general store operated by J.D. Browning and C.W. Hiller. In 1874, J.D Browning built the first hotel in Mound City, which is now known as the Browning Hotel Museum.
