Olpe is a small town in Johnson County, Kansas, located about halfway between Wichita and Topeka. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Olpe is home to the Olpe Community College and the Olpe Historical Museum.
The first settlers in what would become Olpe arrived in 1871. The town was named for a German village near Frankfurt am Main. A post office had been established at Olpe in 1872, and by 1880 there were enough people living there to form a town government. The railroad came through Olpe in 1881, and the town began to grow rapidly as farmers moved into the area to take advantage of the new opportunities it offered.
