Westmoreland, KS

Westmoreland is a small town located in Douglas County, Kansas. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County.

The town was founded in 1871 and named for Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The first post office opened in 1872 and was called " Westmoreland". In 1875, the name was changed to "Douglas". The present name of the town was adopted in 1892.

The economy of Westmoreland is based on agriculture and tourism. The town has two hotels: the Douglas Hotel and the Mountain View Inn. There are also several restaurants, a grocery store, a bank, and several other businesses. Tourism is important to Westmoreland because it receives visitors from all over Kansas as well as neighboring states such as Oklahoma and Missouri.
