Vivian is a small town located in the Louisiana Delta region. The population of Vivian was just over 1,000 as of the 2010 census. The town is situated on the banks of the Atchafalaya River and has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s.
The first settlers in Vivian were French Creoles who arrived in 1803. The area was originally known as "Pointe Coupée" because it was at the point where two rivers met. In 1835, a group of Americans settled in Vivian and changed its name to " Vivian". The town grew rapidly due to its location on the river and became an important shipping port for cotton and sugar cane crops.
Today, Vivian is still an agricultural community, but it has also become a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful scenery and historic sites. Some of the attractions in Vivian include the Old Courthouse Museum, which features exhibits about local history; Fort de Chartres National Historic Site, which features an artillery battery from during World War II; and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, which was built in 1892 and is one of Louisiana's oldest churches still standing.
