Allendale, MI

Allendale is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 14,871 at the 2010 census. Allendale is located on M-24, about 10 miles north of Pontiac and about 25 miles south of Detroit.

The city was founded in 1836 by Ebenezer Allen and named for his home town, Allendale, Northumberland, England. It was incorporated as a village in 1868 and as a city in 1909. The first post office opened on November 1, 1868 with Ebenezer Allen as postmaster.

The city has several parks including Oakwood Cemetery with over 6000 gravesites dating back to 1836; Riverside Park with a playground area open year-round; Veterans Memorial Park with a pool open during summer months; Hillside Park with basketball courts open during winter months
