Warren is a city in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 33,812 at the 2010 census. The city is located about 10 miles west of Detroit and is part of Metro Detroit.

The area that would become Warren was first settled by Europeans in 1805, when General Anthony Wayne and his troops camped near what is now the intersection of Warren and Van Dyke Avenues on their way to take down the British fort at Fort Meigs. In 1827, a group of settlers led by Judge Augustus B. Woodward laid out a town on land donated by General William Hull near what is now Interstate 94 and Telegraph Road (then known as State Street). The town was named for General Joseph Warren, who had fought alongside Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794.

The early economy of Warren depended heavily on agriculture; however, with the arrival of the railroad in 1854, industry began to grow as well. By 1870, there were already several factories operating in Warren—including a woolen mill, a foundry, and a machine shop—and by 1900 there were over 30 businesses present. However, it was not until after World War II that Warren really began to prosper; this was due largely to its location close to Detroit (just 10 miles west), as well as its access to major highways (I-94 and I-75) and airports ( Detroit Metropolitan Airport). Today, many major companies are headquartered in or have facilities located in Warren—including Ford Motor Company (the automaker's global headquarters), Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler's global headquarters), BorgWarner Corporation (the world's largest automotive parts supplier), Honeywell International Incorporated (the world's largest producer of industrial controls), National Steel & Metal Co., Incorporated (the world's largest steel producer), 3M Company (one of the world's leading providers of products for personal care and cleaning products), Magna International Incorporated (one of the world's leading suppliers of auto parts and accessories), Delphi Automotive PLC (a supplier for carmakers including GM/Opel/Saab) , DTE Energy Co., LP(owner/operator Michigan Power) . Additionally , many smaller businesses also locate or expand operations within Warren due to its strong business climate and access to talent .

Today , Warren continues to be an important economic center within Metro Detroit; however , recent changes have put it on pace for even greater growth . In 2008 , Forbes magazine ranked Warren as one of America 's "10 Best Places To Live" ; this recognition has helped spur significant development within the city – including new housing developments , retail stores , restaurants , offices , schools etc . – which has helped make Warren oneof America 's most vibrant cities . In addition , since 2009 , Warren has been home to Motor City Casino – oneof Michigan 's premier gaming destinations – which has helped further boost tourism into the city .
