Flowood is a city located in Jackson County, Mississippi. The population was 17,829 at the 2010 census. Flowood is the county seat of Jackson County.

The city of Flowood was founded in 1837 by John and Nancy Moore on land donated by Judge John Coffee. The town was named for Major General James H. Flow, who fought in the Mexican-American War and in the American Civil War.

In 1892, a fire destroyed much of downtown Flowood. Reconstruction began immediately with new brick buildings erected along Main Street and businesses moving into newly constructed storefronts. In 1907, a new courthouse was completed and dedicated to the memory of General James H. Flow. In 1913, construction began on the Jackson County Courthouse Annex which still stands today as one of the most beautiful examples of Art Deco architecture in Mississippi.

Today, downtown Flowood is a thriving community with many businesses and attractions that draw visitors from around Jackson County and beyond. There are several churches including First Baptist Church (founded 1839), Grace Presbyterian Church (1893), United Methodist Church (1906), Greater Faith Temple Apostolic Holiness Church (1927) and St Luke's United Methodist Church (1968).
