Fenton, MO

Fenton is a small town located in St. Louis County, Missouri. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Fenton is known for its antique shops and its proximity to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

The history of Fenton can be traced back to 1827 when the town was founded by James M. Fenton and his brother-in-law, John A. Stevens. The town's name comes from the fact that it was originally situated on a bend in the Meramec River near an old ford called " Fentons Ford."

In 1856, Fenton became a stop on the Underground Railroad and many slaves passed through its borders on their way to freedom. In 1886, Fenton became home to Stoddard Manufacturing Company which produced agricultural implements and machinery.

During World War II, Fenton was home to Camp Forrest which served as a training ground for American soldiers who were preparing for combat in Europe and Asia. After World War II, Camp Forrest became home to the United States Army Reserve Training Center - St Louis (USARTC-SL).
