Jackson, MO

Jackson is a city located in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,827. The city is the county seat of Jackson County and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Jackson has been settled since 1821 and was named after General Andrew Jackson. The first post office opened in 1829. The city grew rapidly in the late 19th century as a result of its location on the Santa Fe Trail and as a center for agricultural production. It became known as "The Gateway to the West" because it was one of the few cities along the trail that had adequate facilities for travelers.

Today, Jackson is an important commercial center and manufacturing center in Missouri.
