Bayonne, NJ

Bayonne is a borough in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,868, reflecting an increase of 1,564 (+16.4%) from the 9,912 counted in the 2000 Census. Bayonne is part of the New York metropolitan area and is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River opposite Jersey City.

The first Europeans to visit what would become Bayonne were members of Christopher Columbus' expedition on October 12, 1494. The area that would become Bayonne was then part of Bergen County and was called "Pascua Habor". The Dutch claimed it as part of their colony in 1639 and named it "Bergen Neck". In 1673 it became part of New Netherland under charter from King Charles II of England. The town grew rapidly as a result of its strategic location at the mouth of the Hudson River and access to shipping lanes on both sides. By 1776 there were already 1,000 inhabitants living in what would become Bayonne.

During World War II there was a military installation known as Fort Dix located just outside Bayonne along with other military installations in Hudson County such as Fort Lee and Fort Washingon (now Fort Lee). After World War II ended many servicemen returned home and began to populate Bayonne again. This led to an increase in population which reached 10,000 by 1970. In addition to people who lived in Bayonne because it was their home town there were also people who moved into Bayonne for work reasons such as being employed at one or more factories that were located within its boundaries or because they had been transferred to work at one or more military installations within its boundaries which had been closed down after World War II.

Today much has changed since 1970 when Bayonne's population stood at just over 10 thousand people; most notably being that transportation has greatly improved making it easier for people to get around not only within but also outside of Bayonne's boundaries. For example today if someone wanted to go shopping they could do so not only by car but also by taking public transportation such as buses or trains which would take them directly into downtown Newark where many large retail stores are located or alternatively they could walk downtown Newark which would take about twenty minutes depending on how fast they walked and where they stopped for lunch etc.. Another major change that has taken place over the past forty years is that housing prices have increased substantially making it much harder for average citizens to purchase homes within bayonnes boundaries without having some form of financial assistance available; this is especially true for those who are not employed by a company with generous benefits packages such as health insurance etc..

In spite of these changes however there are still many things about life in bayonnes which make it unique compared say say living in Manhattan where you basically have everything at your fingertips whether you live uptown near Central Park or downtown near Wall Street etc.. One thing that all residents can agree upon however is that life in bayonnes can be very pleasant weather wise regardless if you live close to one or several riverside parks such as Lincoln Park which overlooks both banks of river Hudson or Van Vorst Park which overlooks both banks of river Hackensack etc..
