Beachwood is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,898,[11][12] reflecting an increase of 1,716 (+27.5%) from the 7,964 counted in the 2000 Census,[13] which had in turn increased by 2,008 (+31.1%) from the 6,584 counted in the 1990 Census.[14]
The borough was formed on April 12, 1894 as part of an act sponsored by then-Governor George W. Paterson and signed into law by President Grover Cleveland.[15][16] The name " Beachwood" is derived from a tract of land that once belonged to James A. Beach and his wife Sarah (née Potter) Beach,[17][18] who were early settlers of what is now Long Branch Township.[19][20] The original plat for Beachwood was filed on October 3, 1893 with a total area of 1 square mile (2 km2).[21][22]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough had a total area of 2.846 square miles (7.259 km2), including 2.803 square miles (7.236 km2) of land and 0.043 square mile (0.118 km2) of water (0.12%).[1][3]
The borough borders Neptune City to the north; Long Branch Township to the east; Wall Township to the south; and Asbury Park to the west.[23][24]
