Dumont is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,812,[10] reflecting an increase of 511 (+5.4%) from the 9,937 counted in the 2000 Census,[19] which had in turn increased by 1,721 (+14.3%) from the 8,527 counted in the 1990 Census.[20]

The borough was formed on April 15, 1894 as part of an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature that created sixteen municipalities within Bergen County.[22][23][24][25][26] Dumont was named for John Dumont (1792-1871), a U.S. Representative from New York who served as Mayor of Newark and Governor of New Jersey.[27][28] The borough's first mayor was George W. Littell[29] who served until 1895 when he resigned to become secretary to President Grover Cleveland.[30][31] The current mayor is Michael J. Brennan[32].

According to the United States Census Bureau, Dumont has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.6 km2), all land.[33] As of the census[10] of 2010, there were 10,812 people and 4,424 households residing in the borough; the population density was 2,371.0 per square mile (906.7/km2). There were 4,851 housing units at an average density of 915 per square mile (354/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 96% White,[34] 1% African American,[35] 0% Native American,[36] 3% Asian,[37], and 0% from two or more races.[38]. Hispanic or Latino residents made up 5%.
