Hampton is a borough in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 9,724,[1][2] reflecting an increase of 556 (+5.4%) from the 8,827 counted in the 2000 Census.[3]
The borough was formed on March 3, 1894 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Wantage Township and Hampton Township.[4] The borough is named for Hampton Court Palace in London.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough had a total area of 2.921 square miles (7.362 km2), including 2.898 square miles (7.269 km2) of land and 0.122 square mile (0.353 km2) of water (0.29%).[5]
The borough borders Wantage Township to the north and east; East Hanover Township to the south; and Southampton Township to the west
