Hasbrouck Heights is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 16,812,[1][2] reflecting an increase of 1,521 (+10.7%) from the 15,903 counted in the 2000 Census.[3]

The borough was formed on April 6, 1894 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Ridgefield Township and Woodcliff Lake Borough.[4] The name honors General James Hasbrouck,[5] who served in both the American Revolutionary War and as Governor of New Jersey.

The borough is located at 40°50′N 74°02′W (40.8019°N -74.0389°W),[6] atop a ridge that separates Hackensack River to the east from Saddle River to the west. According to the United States Census Bureau, Hasbrouck Heights has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.1 km2), all land.[7]

As of the census[8] of 2000, there were 15,903 people, 5,781 households, and 4,191 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,473.4 people per square mile (927.4/km²). There were 6,044 housing units at an average density of 914.3 per square mile (354.0/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 96% White , 1% African American , 0% Native American , 1% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0% from other races , and 1% from two or more races . Hispanic or Latino Of any race were 3%.
