Ridgefield's Home Prices Continue to Rise

Ridgefield is a township in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 10,836, reflecting an increase of 924 (+5.4%) from the 10,262 counted in the 2000 Census.

The township was formed on February 21, 1798 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Hackensack Township and Saddle River Township. Ridgefield is named for its elevated location on a ridge overlooking both Hackensack and Saddle River valleys. The first settler in Ridgefield was Nicholas Bayard who arrived in 1799. Ridgefield became a borough on March 3, 1894 and changed its name to Ridgefield Park Borough on April 5 of that year. The borough was dissolved on May 14, 1925 and incorporated as a township under the terms of an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature on June 7, 1925.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 2.921 square miles (7.890 km2), including 2.851 square miles (7.693 km2) land and 0.122 square mile (0.353 km2) water (1%).
