Mendham is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,812,[7][8] reflecting an increase of 1,542 (+21.1%) from the 8,959 counted in the 2000 Census.[9]
The borough was formed on March 11, 1894 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Mendham Township.[10] The borough is named for Mendham Township which was named for John Mendham (1692-1752), an English landowner and politician who served as Member of Parliament for Middlesex County in 1715 and as Lord Mayor of London in 1722.[11][12]
Mendham is located at 40°5′N 74°48′W (40.094°N -74.808°W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.3 km2), all land.[13]
As of the census[14] of 2000, there were 8,959 people, 3,469 households, and 2,271 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,762.0 people per square mile (680.7/km2). There were 3,728 housing units at an average density of 686.4 per square mile (265.1/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 96.90% White , 0.68% African American , 0.06% Native American , 1.27% Asian , 0 .03% Pacific Islander , 0 .49% from other races , and 0 .93% from two or more races . Hispanic or Latino Of any race were 2 .24%.
There were 3469 households out of which 36 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61 percent were married couples living together , 9 percent had a female householder with no husband present , and 25 percent were non-families . 19 percent
