Mount Laurel is a borough in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,821,[9][10] reflecting an increase of 524 (+5.4%) from the 9,711 counted in the 2000 Census.[11]

The borough was formed on February 11, 1894 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Evesham Township and Mount Holly Township.[12] The borough's name is derived from Laurence Hall (now demolished),[13] which was named for a landowner who donated some land for public use. The town grew rapidly as a result of its location between Philadelphia and New York City and became known as "the Garden Borough".

In 1916, Mount Laurel adopted its first zoning ordinance,[14] which designated residential areas and commercial districts. The borough has since expanded its zoning ordinances to include industrial areas and other specialized uses. Today, Mount Laurel maintains a highly diversified economy with significant concentrations of business activity in health care services and technology-related industries.

Mount Laurel is home to two universities: Rowan University (which has campuses in both Mount Laurel and Glassboro) and Burlington County College (BCC).
