Oceanport is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 9,737,[8][9] reflecting an increase of 1,451 (+24.5%) from the 6,868 counted in the 2000 Census.[10]
The borough was formed on April 10, 1894 from portions of Neptune Township and Howell Township. The borough was named for its location on Ocean County's eastern coast.[11]
Oceanport is located at (40.760902,-74.984604).[12] According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.6 km2), all of it land.[13] The oceanfront is a major attraction for visitors to Oceanport and provides views that are not available anywhere else along the Jersey Shore.[14][15][16][17][18]
As of the census[19] of 2010, there were 9,737 people residing in the borough; 49% were White non-Hispanic residents,[8] 36% were Hispanic or Latino residents,[20] and 4% were black or African American residents.[21] There were 592 households out of which 33% had children under the age of 18 living with them,[22] 50% were married couples living together,[23] 16% had a female householder with no husband present,[22] and 25% were non-families. 21% of all households were made up of individuals and 8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[22] The average household size was 2.65 and there were 31 families residing in the borough who lived alone; 11 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.[22][24][25]:p2 As per census data[26], about 26 percent (3 out every 10) people aged 25 to 44 live in Oceanport while about 38 percent (4 out every 10) people aged 45 to 64 reside here
