Parsippany is a township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 36,829,[9][10] reflecting an increase of 1,564 (+5.4%) from the 33,711 counted in the 2000 Census,[11] which had in turn increased by 5,812 (+25.2%) from the 24,809 counted in the 1990 Census.[12]

The township was formed on March 11th 1793 as part of an act of the New Jersey Legislature to provide more equitable representation for Morris County's rapidly growing population. The Township originally consisted of what are now portions of Parsippany-Troy Hills and Roseland.[13] The first settler arrived around 1795 and built a cabin on what is now known as "the Hill". The name " Parsippany" is derived from a Native American word meaning "place where there are many parsnips".[14][15][16]
