Secaucus is a town located in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the town's population was 20,521,[10][11] reflecting an increase of 1,814 (+27.2%) from the 15,711 counted in the 2000 Census,[12] which had in turn increased by 2,851 (+41.1%) from the 11,569 counted in the 1990 Census.[13]
Secaucus was founded as a railroad station on May 17th 1849 and named for Secaucus Junction near Newark where trains could change direction. The first house was built by George W. Childs who also operated a hotel and general store on what is now known as Main Street. The town prospered with the arrival of commuters who worked at factories in nearby Hackensack and Hoboken.[14] In 1892 Secaucus became home to one of America's earliest golf courses when Robert Trent Jones designed his course at Meadowlands Country Club.[15]
Today Secaucus is home to many businesses including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp.),[16][17][18][19][20] insurance companies (AIG),[21][22][23] law firms (WilmerHale LLP),[24], technology companies (Intel Corporation),[25], and retailers (Target Corporation).[26].
