Summit is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 11,827,[7][8] reflecting an increase of 1,569 (+14.4%) from the 10,362 counted in the 2000 Census,[9] which had in turn increased by 2,924 (+36.1%) from the 6,992 counted in the 1990 Census.[10]

Summit was incorporated as a borough on March 9, 1898,[11][12] from portions of Hackensack Township and Saddle River Township.[13][14] The borough derives its name from nearby Mount Summit (2,684 feet (819 m)) and is adjacent to Upper Saddle River Township and Ramsey.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Summit has a total area of 4.739 square miles (12.068 km2), including 4.639 square miles (11.929 km2) of land and 0.120 square mile (0.3 km2) of water (0.30%).[1]

The borough borders Saddle River Township to the north; Ramsey to the east; Hackensack Township to the south; and Upper Saddle River Township to the west.[15][16][17]
