Tuckerton is a small town located in Ocean County, New Jersey. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toms River-Lacey Township, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The town was founded in 1798 by Nicholas Longworth and named for his friend, Thomas Tuckerton, 3rd Baron Tuckerton of Hackney. The first settler in what would become Tuckerton was a man by the name of John Jordon who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1799. In 1802, Longworth purchased a tract of land from the Native Americans and began to develop it into a farmstead. He built a sawmill and gristmill on the banks of the Raritan River which provided much needed employment for his settlers.
In 1810, Longworth erected a storehouse on his property which served as both an inn and post office. This building became known as "The Old Stone House". In 1811, he erected another storehouse which served as both an inn and court house until 1892 when it was replaced by a new courthouse which still stands today.
In 1812, Longworth laid out streets and began to sell lots to his settlers. The first schoolhouse was built that same year and it served as both a church and school until 1840 when it was replaced by a larger structure which still stands today.
In 1850, railroads were extended to Tuckerton through neighboring townships providing even more economic opportunity for its residents. This led to an increase in population which reached 1,000 by 1860; however this growth would come to an abrupt halt with the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861.
It wasn't until after World War II that Tuckerton again experienced significant growth with the construction of homes along Route 9 (the Garden State Parkway). As recently as 1990 there were only 900 residents living within town limits; however since then there has been an influx of families moving into Tuckerton due to its close proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Newark (about 20 miles away) and New York City (about 40 miles away). Today there are approximately 2,800 residents living within town limits making it one of Ocean County's most populous municipalities..
According to data compiled by Statista , real estate prices within Tuckerton have increased at twice the rate of inflation over the past decade . This has led many homeowners who have lived in town for many years to see their properties increase significantly in value – some even doubling or tripling in value – while at the same time experiencing little-to-no increases in their monthly mortgage payments . One possible explanation for this trend may be attributed to several factors: firstly ,Tuckerson's location adjacent to major metropolitan areas makes it very desirable real estate territory ; secondly ,there is currently very little available housing stock within town limits ; lastly ,the relatively low cost of living compared with other larger cities may also be contributing factors . Regardless ,it is clear that real estate prices within Tuckeron are continuing their upward trajectory – making it an ideal investment opportunity for those looking for long-term stability .
