Forest Hills, NY

Forest Hills is a neighborhood in the borough of Queens, New York City. It is located in the eastern part of the borough, bordered by Rego Park to the north, Hollis to the east, Jamaica Estates to the south and Kew Gardens to the west. Forest Hills was developed beginning in 1905 as a streetcar suburb of Manhattan. The name " Forest Hills" was given by Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York's Central Park. The area originally consisted of small farms and country estates that were subdivided into building lots after World War I. Forest Hills became a popular residential area for wealthy New Yorkers during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1939, Forest Hills High School opened as one of the first public high schools in Queens.

Today, Forest Hills is a diverse community with a population that ranges from young families to retirees. Its many historic homes are now occupied by people from all walks of life. The streets are lined with large trees and well-manicured gardens that provide residents with plenty of privacy. There are several parks in Forest Hills including Van Wyck Park, which features an outdoor pool and tennis courts; Springfield Gardens; Cross Bay Boulevard Park; and Laurel Hill Cemetery which contains gravesites for many famous people including Babe Ruth, Eleanor Roosevelt and Walt Whitman.

The real estate market in Forest Hills has seen steady growth over recent years due to its close proximity to Manhattan as well as its many amenities such as schools, parks and shopping districts.
