Madison is a city located in the Capital Region of New York. The population of Madison was 116,912 as of the 2010 census. Madison is a suburb of Albany and is part of the greater Albany- Schenectady- Troy metropolitan area.

Madison was first settled in 1789 and incorporated as a village in 1816. It became a town in 1847 and was chartered as a city in 1865. The city's economy has been based on its role as an administrative center for northern New York, including its status as the home of the state capital. Manufacturing has been an important part of Madison's economy, with companies such as IBM, Xerox, and Kodak having major operations here. In recent years, however, health care services and information technology have become more important to the city's economy.
