Mount Vernon, NY

Mount Vernon is a historic town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 7,591 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north bank of the Hudson River and is about equidistant from New York City and Albany.

The area that would become Mount Vernon was first settled by Europeans in 1686 as part of the patroon system. The town's name comes from George Washington, who purchased land in Mount Vernon in 1754 and began construction of his home there in 1755. The estate was completed in 1758 and became his primary residence until his death in 1799. After Washington's death, the estate passed through several hands before being purchased by Robert Erskine Childs in 1924. It has since been open to the public as a museum.

Today, Mount Vernon is a thriving small town with a rich history that can be seen on every street corner. The downtown area features many shops and restaurants, while also offering beautiful views of the Hudson River and George Washington's homeplace.
